In general, you may eat anything you like once the baby arrives, of course you need to continue observing the regular dietary guidelines for adults. Naturally, if you gained a bit too much weight (which often occurs and is absolutely nothing to be stressed out about) during pregnancy, you may want to stay away from fattening foods until your normal figure has returned.

If you are breastfeeding, continue to follow the nutritional guidelines you received during your pregnancy (including your Prenatal nutritional supplements), plus go easy on alcohol and continue not smoking or using non-essential drugs and medications. You will still need about 600 calories a day more than a regular adult diet. This can be an 8 ounce glass of 2 percent milk and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Breastfeeding moms will find that they will lose excess body weight faster than their non-breastfeeding counterparts since the caloric requirements are greater with breastfeeding. Discuss specific dietary concerns with your midwife or health care provider.

Anise combats infection, promotes milk production in nursing mothers and is helpful with menopausal problems.
Fennel promotes milk production for breastfeeding moms and is soothing for digestive upsets.
Continue drinking your pregnancy herbal tea to enrich your diet with necessary nutrients, stablize hormones, and supply required liquid to keep your milk supply flowing.
MOONDRAGON'S PREGNANCY TEA RECIPE
2 parts Red Raspberry Leaf
1 part Nettle Leaf
1 part Alfalfa Leaf
1 part Peppermint Leaf
Mix dried herbs thoroughly and use a portion to make up a half gallon to a gallon of tea. This blend makes a nice sun tea that can them be refrigerated for a refreshing iced tea to be consumed throughout the day. It provides red raspberry leaf for hormonal balance and uterine toning, Nettle and Alfalfa are high in blood building vitamins and minerals, and the peppermint leaf is good for soothing the digestive system and getting it back to normal as well as giving the tea a nice minty flavor. It tastes fine unsweetened, but if the mom would like a little sweetener, use honey. Honey is high in nutrients and digests easily. A great tea blend for not only pregnancy, but postpartum recovery. It makes a great tea blend for adding recovery tinctures to, if needed, since the flavor of the tea will help "hide" some of the flavors of the tinctures (not all of them taste good).
