Nausea during pregnancy can be miserable, to say the least. It can be discouraging to have to adapt to one more thing during this time, as if you do not have enough to deal with while pregnant. Some women experience a slight nausea or only feel ill or queasy in the morning, but for some women it lasts all day and is even troublesome at night. Discomfort usually eases off by the third or fourth month, but this is not always the case. Use either a 12C or 30C potency (strength, or potency recommended or available) of the indicated remedy a few times per day, as needed. If a few doses bring no relief, try a different remedy.



ARSENICUM ALBUM:

Arsenicum Album (Arsenous Acid) - This is a homeopathic remedy that may be used for calming upset stomach, warding off diarrhea symptoms and vomiting, often accompanied by great thirst, restlessness and sciatica. Worse after midnight. May be used for cramps, gastroenteritis, hay fever, chills, dermatitis, inflammation of all degrees of severity in all organs, serious infections, diseases of attrition, benign and malignant proliferation of tissue and emotional discord or upset. Relieves any restlessness symptoms and therefore much better suited to a busy lifestyle. For homeopathic use, arsenicum album is prepared by separating arsenic from iron (as in arsenopyrite), cobalt, or nickel by baking at high temperatures. The powder is then ground and diluted with lactose. In the final dilution, there are normally no atoms of arsenic left. The final product is sold as tinctures (liquid), tablets, pellets, or powder. Adults dissolve 4 tablets under tongue 4 times daily. Children 2 tablets. In acute cases take 4 tablets every hour until relieved, or as directed by a health care practitioner. As with any drug, if you are pregnant or nursing a baby, seek the advice of a health professional before using this product.

KREOSOTUM:

Kreosotum - When this remedy is indicated, the woman may salivate so much that she constantly swallows it, becoming nauseous. She may also vomit up food that looks undigested, several hours after eating.

Kreosotum, or creosote, is made from distilled beechwood tar. It has been used for centuries as a wood preservative and was first used for medical purposes in the 1800s. It is currently used to treat a wide range of conditions, such as bed-wetting, bleeding between menstrual cycles, ailments affecting the mucus membranes, and nausea due to pregnancy. To make a solution of kreosotum, creosote is typically dissolved in alcohol and distilled water. Next, it is strained through a filter until the liquid is extracted, making a mother tincture. One drop of the mother tincture can be diluted further in a mixture of alcohol and distilled water. This new, diluted mixture is then vigorously shaken. It can be diluted further, if necessary, or added to tablets, granules, or powder, and stored. People who practice homeopathic medicine claim that kreosotum works best on certain types of patients. For example, they claim that people who are consistently in a temperamental state are ideal for the drug. It is also believed to work well on people who are forgetful, restless at night, and irritable. Other characteristics that are common among patients who use kreosotum include a penchant to live in the past and experience repeated dreams that are sexual in nature. It is often used to treat candidiasis as well. Candidiasis is a fungal infection that usually affects the vagina. Kreosotum is usually recommended for people who have an offensive, foul-smelling discharge coming from the vaginal area. HOMEOPATHY DOSAGE DIRECTIONS

Select the remedy that most closely matches the symptoms. In conditions where self-treatment is appropriate, unless otherwise directed by a midwife or health care provider, a lower potency (6X, 6C, 12X, 12C, 30X, or 30C) should be used. In addition, instructions for use are usually printed on the label.

Many homeopathic practitioners suggest that remedies be used as follows: Take one dose and wait for a response. If improvement is seen, continue to wait and let the remedy work. If improvement lags significantly or has clearly stopped, another dose may be taken. The frequency of dosage varies with the condition and the individual. Sometimes a dose may be required several times an hour; other times a dose may be indicated several times a day; and in some situations, one dose per day (or less) can be sufficient.
