There have been some great informational pages already written by many individuals that address the concept of herbal contraception and herbal abortion. With this in mind, I have provided links to some of the most interesting web sites I have come across instead of reproducing the information on this page. Sister Zeus has a wonderful web site with a lot of valuable information. I highly recommend her site as a good resource on this subject.
My personal recommendation about using herbs for contraception/abortion reasons is to contact a person knowledgeable in herbal medicine such as a herbal trained midwife, skilled herbalist, or a Naturopathic physician that is willing to assist you in taking abortive herbs and is familiar with your personal health history.
Please do not e-mail or call me to assist you with an herbal abortion. I would have to refuse you since I am not willing to take the risks of assisting you and having something go terribly wrong - besides, as a midwife, I am in the profession of birthing babies not aborting them.
Some of these herbs can be dangerous if taken in large doses and must be used with care. Herbs used for abortion work by producing a toxic chemical condition in your body that would keep a pregnancy from being sustained. The idea is to terminate the pregnancy without making yourself sick or dead in the process. This is why it is important to consult with someone knowledgeable in this method.
The success rate of herbal abortions varies greatly and you must be willing to do a follow-up surgical abortion if the herbal remedies do not work (I have read from 20-80 percent success rate depending on when they were taken during the pregnancy and the researcher writing the study). Herbal methods are best used as soon as possible after conception or your first missed menstrual period. Their success rate drastically drops as the pregnancy continues. As always, I recommend counseling with an appropriate health care provider before deciding on abortion to terminate a pregnancy.
