Whether it is after those busy holidays or a relaxing summer evening sitting in the swing on the back porch, there is nothing more therapeutic than kicking back with a big glass of wine - especially if it is infused with herbs and spices. Herbs and spices add an unexpected zing, lending bright flavors that turn your regular glass of grapes into something special. While herbal wine may sound trendy, these concoctions date back hundreds of years in Europe and are wildly popular today in Italy. Many believe that herbal wines have health-promoting properties and help with digestion.
HERBAL INFUSED WINE RECIPES
WHITE WINE WITH LEMON AND THYME
1 bottle Dry White Wine, such as Chardonnay
Zest of 1 Lemon
2 large sprigs of Thyme
Combine ingredients in a glass bowl or container. Cover with plastic wrap and let stand for one day. Strain wine, transfer to a bottle, and serve. When zesting the lemon, make sure not to cut into the bitter white pith.
1 bottle Rosé Wine
Zest of 1 Orange
5 Sage Leaves, crushed
Combine ingredients in a glass bowl or container. Cover with plastic wrap and let stand for one day. Strain wine, transfer to a bottle, and serve. When zesting the orange, make sure not to cut into the bitter white pith.
1 bottle Cabernet Sauvignon
1 teaspoon Ginger, chopped
2 Cinnamon Sticks
