SHOWER GEL
A morning shower is an invigorating way to ease into your busy day. It drives away fatigue and helps to rev your engine for what lies ahead. To reap the most benefit from a shower, keep the water only slightly warm and the length of time to a minimum. Otherwise, your skin could lose moisture and become dehydrated. Very hot water can stress the circulatory system and may cause skin irritations, such as dry, scaly or itchy skin. Fortunately, by making your own shower gel using natural products, you can offset some of the drying that regular showering can cause. Nature offers a broad range of products that gently soften, cleanse and condition the skin. Adding essential oils, such as citrus for a refreshing fragrance, or floral water for a feminine scent, can enrich your morning shower.

SHOWER GEL APPLICATION
Shower with water that's slightly warm to cool. Spread the shower gel evenly on your skin using a washcloth or loofah. Massage your body, working upward, using broad, circular strokes. Rinse thoroughly. Gently pat yourself dry, and then follow with an application of moisturizer or body powder, if desired.

ROSE WATER FOR GENTLE CARE
Rose water is often found in commercial cosmetic products because of its fragrant, softening and mildly astringent properties. The delicate water is obtained from a steam distillation process that can extract the oil. Its gentle effects make rose water great for use in shower gels and lotions.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN
Rose water is used in cosmetics for its lovely scent, but also because it has light astringent properties. As the gentlest of all astringents, rose water is often used as toner for fair and dry skin.
You must be careful when purchasing rose water to buy only the 100 percent pure form. Often what is available in pharmacies and even some natural food stores is synthetic rose oil and water with preservatives added. Pure rose water is the distilled water of roses. It is usually made by stream distillation, and it smells heavenly and tastes delicious.
Availability: Besides health food stores and herb stores, you can often find rose water in delicatessens; it is used as a flavoring in fancy Greek pastries, puddings, and cakes.

Herbal Remedies: Rosewater Concentrate, NOW Foods, 1 oz.
Rosewater concentrate is made by the steam distillation of the Belgium rose petals resulting in a pure and natural rose essence in distilled water. They are wonderful and inexpensive as a facial splash, as a deodorant, an air freshener, in the spa, for skin application, during massage, as a base in your body care recipes, and most may be used in culinary creations. They are moisturizing, fragrant, cooling and contain similar properties as essential oils but in much less concentration, which makes them a lovely alternative to those with sensitivities. We have now expanded our entire line of hydrosols, which have all been distilled in improved stainless steel cookers and processed through certified organic methods. ROSE WATER RECIPE
This recipe is the more traditional way to prepare rose water. Though it's a little more involved, its fun to do and the results are outstanding. You can make a quart of excellent-quality rose water in about 40 minutes. However, if you simmer the water too long, you will continue to produce distilled water but the rose essence will become diluted. Your rose water will smell more like plain distilled water, rather than the heavenly scent of roses.
Be sure you have a brick and heat-safe stainless steel or glass quart bowl ready before you begin.
Ingredients:
2-3 quarts fresh Roses or Rose Petals
Water
Ice Cubes or Crushed Ice
1. In the center of a large pot (the speckled blue canning pots are ideal) with an inverted lid (a rounded lid), place a fireplace brick. On top of the brick place the bowl. Put the roses in the pot; add enough flowers to reach the top of the brick. Pour in just enough water to cover the roses. The water should be just above the top of the brick.
2. Place the lid upside down on the pot. Turn on the stove and bring the water to a rolling boil, then lower heat to a slow steady simmer. As soon as the water begins to boil, toss two or three trays of ice cubes (or a bag of ice) on top of the lid.
3. You've now created a home still! As the water boils the steam rises, hits the top of the cold lid, and condenses. As it condenses it flows to the center of the lid and drops into the bowl. Every twenty minutes, quickly lift the lid and take out a tablespoon or two of the rose water. It's time to stop when you have between a pint and a quart of water that smells and tastes strongly like roses.

SCENTED SHOWER GEL RECIPE
Ingredients:
1/2 cup Unscented Shampoo
1/4 cup water
3/4 teaspoon Salt
15 drops Fragrance Oil
Food Coloring (optional)
Directions:
Pour shampoo into a bowl and add the water. Stir until its well mixed add the salt and fragrance.
Suggestions for scents:
- Kiwi Extract
- Raspberry Extract
- Strawberry Extract
- Coconut Extract
- Vanilla Extract
Mix and match or use one alone. The Raspberry and Vanilla mix is especially good... it smells so good!

TO PROTECT YOUR SKIN
Seal in the moisture received from your daily shower by applying a soothing body lotion:
Immediately after showering, pat your skin dry and gently massage your favorite lotion into your skin. This daily habit will leave your skin feeling supple and velvety. For a lasting fragrance, try adding a few drops of an Essential Oil that you like.
INDIAN MASSAGE OIL
This skin-softening mixture of oils, for use after a shower gel, comes from Ayurveda, an ancient medicine practiced in India.
Ingredients:
1 Cup Unrefined Sesame Oil
10 Drops Peppermint Essential Oil
10 Drops Lemongrass Essential Oil
10 Drops Geranium Essential Oil
10 Drops Basil Essential Oil
1. Cleanse your skin with a gentle shower gel and rinse thoroughly. Pat dry.
2. While your body is still slightly damp, apply approximately 1 tablespoon of the oil mixture over your entire body. Massage your feet and work toward your heart until the oil is absorbed.
Note: Anyone who has extremely dry, dehydrated skin should follow the second step with a layer of body lotion.
