Citrin is a trademarked name for a standardized herbal extract from the rind of the
fruit of the Garcinia cambogia plant, also known as Indian Brindall Berry or
Malabar Tamarind.
It is used in India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka both as a food and as a medicine.
The Garcinia cambogia's rind is rich in the substance hydroxy citric acid, which is
helpful in weight loss. It inhibits the synthesis of fatty acids in the liver, promotes
the burning of body fat as fuel through thermogenic action, and suppresses the appetite. Its
primary usefulness is in treating obesity, although it may also aid in preventing or slowing
atherosclerosis and heart disease.
Garcinia cambogia reduces the conversion of carbohydrates into stored fat by inhibiting
certain enzyme processes. When less fat is available for use and slowed down, the body burns
calories at an accelerated pace. They experienced curbed appetite and less tendency to
"nibble," and an increase in energy.
