YLANG YLANG HERBAL & ESSENTIAL OIL DESCRIPTION

The Ylang Ylang (cananga) tree, native to the Philippines and grows in Indonesia and the Philippines, can reach heights of over 60 feet. The tropical tree has gentle drooping branches bearing yellowish white, highly fragrant flowers, which are harvested before sunrise to retain their precious essential oil.

Ylang ylang oil is steam distilled from these early morning fresh-picked flowers. About 135 pounds of the blossoms are needed to make 1 quart of essential oil, which is extracted through steam distillation. The distillation process is interrupted at various points as the accumulated oil is removed. The first oil to be drawn off is the highest quality and is graded extra or #1. Ylang ylang extra has an intense floral, sweet, jasmine-like, almost narcotic aroma. Ylang Ylang oil has a relaxing effect, making it useful as an antidepressant. It also eases spasmodic pains, stress levels and high blood pressure. In addition, Ylang Ylang oil is valuable for body care products, as it softens skin and balances moisture.

Traditionally it was used to treat malaria, soothe insect bites and fight infections. It was also used as an aphrodisiac and a tonic to soothe the nervous system. Ylang Ylang extract has a very pleasant fragrance and is very potent. For many years Ylang Ylang was mixed with Coconut Oil to perfume and condition the body and hair, and now, it is often mixed with Sandalwood or Jasmine oils and is used as an incense and candles for aromatherapy.

  • YLANG YLANG DOSAGE INFORMATION

Ylang Ylang is an exotic oil that can both uplift and relax.

Ylang ylangís most important property is its ability to slow down rapid breathing and rapid heart rates. It is among the oils that have the ability to help reduce high blood pressure. In skincare, Ylang Ylang oil is suitable for both dry and oily skins, as it has a balancing action on the skinís secretion of sebum. Ylang Ylang is derived from steam distillation of the flower of a tree, which grows in the Philippines, Java, Sumatra and Madagascar.

    CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

For circulatory health, use 2 to 3 drops of of Ylang Ylang essential oil in a diffuser or add 8 to 10 drops in a bath. Also, mix 2 to 3 drops of the oil in an ounce of Carrier Oil and massage on the body.

To lower high blood pressure, use 2 to 3 drops in a diffuser or steam inhalation. (If used too frequently or in high doses, ylang ylang could cause headaches or nausea in some people.)

    INHALATION THERAPY

Inhalation is the quickest and most effective (and the most convenient!) way to get an essential oil into your system. It is also the most appropriate method when dealing with respiratory, mental or any systemic issues. Drop 2 to 3 drops of Ylang Ylang essential oil in a diffuser to use as an aphrodisiac or to help alleviate frigidity or impotence, to relieve anxiety, or to help with circulatory health, depression, hair growth, insomnia, panic, physical exhaustion, postnatal depression, rapid breathing or rapid heartbeat, shock, stress and tension.

    SKIN APPLICATION

There are quite a few ways to use essential oils on your skin. This can be effective when dealing with a more localized issue such as a skin condition or specific pain. Always use with caution when putting essential oils on your skin and when necessary, do a patch test first.

  • For circulatory health, mix 2 to 3 drops of Ylang Ylang essential oil in one ounce of Carrier oil and massage on the body.
  • For upset stomach or mild food poisoning, mix 2 to 3 drops of Ylang Ylang essential oil in an ounce of Ylang Ylang essential oil with a Carrier oil and massage into scalp. Leave on 20 minutes and shampoo out.
  • For use as an aphrodisiac, or to help alleviate frigidity or impotence, drop 8 to 10 drops of of Ylang Ylang essential oil in a bath.
