  • illipe butter

Illipe Seed Butter (Shorea Stenoptera) is a harder butter with higher melting point than most other exotic butters, yet still melts on contact with the skin. The first inhabitants of Borneo (the Dayaks) have been making a "butter" from Illipe nuts for many centuries for therapeutic and cosmetic purposes. Illipe Butter has long-lasting moisturizing attributes. It is most reknown for its skin softening quality.

Illipe nuts come from a truly magnificent tree that is native to Southeast Asia and Borneo. It flowers in October through January, when the nuts are collected after they fall to the ground, but not before. The seeds are collected from the ground and dried in the sun until they are brittle enough to be separated from the shells. The indigenous peoples of Borneo have been making a "butter" from the Illipe nuts for many centuries for therapeutic and cosmetic purposes.

Illipe's chemical composition closely resembles that of Cocoa Butter, yet with a slightly higher melting point, making it ideal for use in bar soaps, lip balms, lip sticks and other stick type applications where a higher melting point is desired. Illipe Butter is used in lipsticks, lip and body balms, creams, lotions, make-up foundations, hair conditioners and bar soaps to prevent drying of the skin which leads to the development of wrinkles. It reduces degeneration of skin cells and restores skin flexibility and elasticity. This tropical butter is mild, moisturising and restores the skinís suppleness. It is helpful in healing sores and mouth ulcers.

Illipe Butter should be stored in cool (below 25°C) storage away from light and moisture in an unopened container.

The Illipe tree grows in the forests of Borneo. The tree grows from 5 to 15 meters in height, with 5 centimeter seeds. The seeds are enclosed in a thin shell with wing-like attachments that enable the seed to fall away from the mother tree. The seeds are collected from the ground and dried in the sun until the shells are sufficiently brittle to be separated from the seeds by pounding in rice mortars.

Illipe Butter is exotic and luxurious, and is quite similar to Cocoa Butter in its triglyceride composition. Because it has a higher melting point than cocoa butter it makes it ideal for soaps, and it is an excellent base for a great many body care products, including those used for the skin, sun protection, creams, soaps, lip sticks, balms, make-up foundations, and hair conditioners.

Illipe Butter is renowned for it's incredible moisturizing properties and its ability to restore elasticity to the skin. It is quite comparable to Cocoa Butter in its physical properties and composition, and is beneficial for the treatment of:
    • Moisturizing chronically dry skin.
    • Mature skin.
    • Sunburn.
    • Healing sores.
    • Damaged skin.
    • Rough skin (such as on feet).
    • Mouth ulcers.
    • Dry or over processed hair.

Illium Butter is used as a skin softener and protector. It is found in many skin care products. Use product as indicated on product label. For external use only.

Those with serious or persistent skin problems, such as eczema, should consult a health care provider before using Illium Butter.

Not recommended by those with nut allergies.
