CHEMICAL ALLERGY DESCRIPTION
When the body is exposed to foreign chemicals, it may respond by producing antibodies to defend itself against foreign invaders. Virtually any substance can provoke a reaction in some individuals.
CHEMICAL ALLERGY FREQUENT SIGNS & SYMPTOMS
Chemical allergies often manifest themselves as skin reactions such as a rash or eczema. Other possible allergic responses to foreign chemicals include:
- Watery eyes.
- Asthma, bronchitis.
- Ringing in the ears.
- Stuffy nose.
- Intestinal disorders.
- Nausea, upset stomach.
Some people may have a reaction immediately after encountering a chemical allergen; others may not develop a reaction for up to 24 hours after coming in contact with the irritant.
CHEMICAL ALLERGY CAUSES
Some of the environmental contaminants that most frequently cause problems include:
- Coal fumes.
- Carbolic acid.
- Paint strippers.
- Hair sprays and fragrances (colognes, perfumes, soaps, etc.).
- Household cleaning products.
- Metals such as nickel, mercury, chrome, beryllium.
If you develop a skin rash from exposure to nickel metal in watchbands, earrings, snaps, or other items that come in contact with the skin, try using Calendula Ointment.
Calendula, Chamomile, Elder Flower, and Tea Tree Oil can also be used as a soothing wash on rashes.
The first step in managing chemical allergies is to determine which chemicals are provoking the allergic reactions. Avoid coming into contact with these chemicals. If the source of the problem is not obvious, see an allergy specialist.
Avoid foods that have been sprayed or that contain artificial colorings (found in some apples and oranges), ripening agents, or protective waxes (found on some apples, cucumbers, and other items). Avoid things containing FD&C Yellow Dye No.5. Read all food product labels carefully.
Supplement your diet with plenty of Fiber. Oat Bran is a good source of fiber. Apple Pectin can also be a useful addition to your diet. It removes unwanted metals that may trigger allergic reactions. Note: Always take supplemental fiber separately from other supplements and medications.
Mercury and silver in dental fillings can cause allergic reactions as well as heavy metal poisoning.
Unless otherwise specified, the following recommended doses are for adults over the age of 18. For children between the ages of 12 and 17, reduce the dose to 3/4 the recommended amount.
