SEA BUCKTHORN HERBAL & OIL DESCRIPTION

    AN ANTIOXIDANT EFA

Sea Buckthorn identifies a group of species in the genus Hippophae in the plant family Elaeagnaceeae, the most commonly used of which is Hippophae rhamnoides. Sea Buckthorn is also known as Sandthorn, Sallowthorn and Seaberry.

This thorny shrub can be found growing on mountain slopes and along riverbanks and seashores. The silver-green leaves are accompanied by yellowish-green flowers that turn into orange berry sized fruits. Native to Asia and Europe, it has been planted throughout China and Russia to aid in erosion control and water conservation. Legends written about sea buckthorn come to us from the Ancient Greeks to Genghis Khan. Most include sick and injured horses being left in the wild, and being discovered later as healthy, strong horses running around. Upon further investigation it was discover that the horses have been surviving on the leaves, twigs, and berries of the sea buckthorn plant. This also leads to the Latin name Hippophae meaning "shining horse".

Sea Buckthorn constituents include Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Protein, Fatty Acids, Carotene, and Vitamin E. The parts used are the fruit, seeds, and oil. Sea Buckthorn has culinary, medicinal and cosmetic skincare benefits. The leaves and twigs are used medicinally.

Difficult to harvest by hand, this "superfruit" is usually shaken off of the branches after a freeze. Once harvested the fruit may be utilized whole, dried and powered, or pressed into oil. The ripe fruit is very bitter, and has a passionfruit-like flavor once sweetened.

Sea Buckthorn is traditionally used as a staple throughout Chinese and Tibetan medicines. Preparations of the fruit and seeds cover a wide variety of applications. Considered a "superfruit", the berry is becoming widely popular as a general skin healing and overall health boosting botanical. Sea Buckthorn has no known precautions.

    SEA BUCKTHORN OIL

A useful, highly prized oil typically used to treat damaged skin. It can be applied directly to the skin or included within skin care preparations that are designed to relieve occasional symptoms of problematic skin conditions. This oil contains essential fatty acids, carotenes, tocopherols, and phytosterols. It is a concentrated oil, and we suggest to use sparingly. The Sea Buckthorn Oil offered by Mountain Rose Herbs was processed by the cold press method of the entire berry with seeds. This particular oil will solidify if exposed to low temperatures, and it is best left at room temperature. Some mild staining of skin may occur; this is temporary and washes off easily. Use caution, spread evenly and dilute.

Oil can be extracted from either the seeds or the pulp of the fruit. Oils from Sea Buckthorn seeds and pulp differ considerably in fatty acid composition. While linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid are the major fatty acids in seed oil, Sea Buckthorn pulp oil contains approximately 65 percent combined of the monounsaturated fatty acid, palmitoleic acid, and the saturated fatty acid, palmitic acid. Few other vegetable oils contain a similar quantity of these fatty acids. Both the seed and pulp oils are rich in tocopherols, tocotrienols and plant sterols. In addition, the pulp oil contains especially high levels of carotenoids.

Due to its unique botanical and nutritional properties, and there being no reported evidence of Sea Buckthorn Oil causing adverse reactions or negative side effects, the oil is also used as a natural agent that may benefit diseases of mucous membranes including aphthous ulcers, esophagitis, acid reflux, and peptic ulcers, as well as dermatological diseases and skin conditions. In Russia and China, pulp oil may also be used topically to treat skin burns from radiation. Currently, cosmetic companies are adding Sea Buckthorn Oil to anti-aging preparations.

Sea Buckthorn Oil is produced by the cold pressing of the entire fruiting body that this small shrub produces. A small layer of oil is isolated within a vat of pressed material which is then vacuumed off and separated as pure oil. This helps to explain the requirement of upwards to 10 pounds of berries to produce 1 pound of oil. This marvelous oil has copious amounts of Phytosterol, Vitamin E, Beta-Carotene, Anti-Oxidants, and Carotenoid which helps to substantiate its relatively high success rate as a skin repairing and conditioning oil. Sea Buckthorn has been traditionally used for a wide range of skin ailments for its revered nourishing, regenerative, and restorative actions. Sea Buckthorn Oil is used superficially to assist in healing skin injuries, burns, wounds, eczema, lesions, sun damaged skin, and abrasions. Current studies are being performed on its ability to combat wrinkles, acute dryness and other symptoms of prematurely aged skin. This deep colored oil is obtained from the whole berries of the scrubby brush Hippophae Rhamnoides which is a native to Russia, and northern parts of China and Mongolia, and produces a thick, red/orange oil with the consistency and viscosity of syrup.

MEDICINAL USE: Because of its overwhelming popularity as a skin treatment, recent findings and further studies have substantiated its success rate when used internally. As an internal dietary supplement It has shown to help promote healthy blood circulation, the rudimentary treatment of colitis, stomach ulcers, and as soothing agent for the gastro-intestinal tract. The general consensus in the alternative health care industry agrees upon using 1 tablespoon or four to five 500 mg capsules daily.

CONSTITUENTS: Vitamin C, Vitamins A, B-1, B-2, E, and other mixed Tocopherols and Phytosterols, Flavonoids and numerous other essential fatty acids.

DR. OZ RECOMMENDS SEA BUCKTHORN AS A WEIGHT LOSS SUPERFOOD

    (PRWEB) June 08, 2011

Dr. Oz, one of the most respected weight loss authorities in the media today, has recently come out and recommended a product that has been getting a lot of attention in the weight loss community over the last several months. The product is called Sea Buckthorn, and according to Dr. Oz, it is one of the most effective weight loss supplements on the market today.

Sea Buckthorn Berry is being called the new "super fruit" because of its many health benefits. Containing the rare ingredient of Omega-7 fat (also known as Palmitoleic acid), it signals the body to stop storing fat. What this means for users is that it starts melting away the fat immediately, and it has been scientifically proven to help users keep it off for longer periods than conventional weight loss programs.

Though Sea Buckthorn is great for helping people shrink their waist lines, its additional health benefits are getting it a lot of attention in the health industry as well. Sea Buckthorn oil has also been proven to help keep mucus membranes lubricated, relieve constipation, promote healthy teeth, and when used as an oil for the skin, it even has anti-acne and anti-aging properties.

Sea Buckthorn's achievements are certainly impressive, but perhaps the most notable aspect of the Super Fruit is that Doctor Oz himself came out and recommended it. For those who are familiar with Doctor Oz and his successful show, they know that he does not stand behind gimmicks or unsubstantiated claims. His show is based on cold hard scientific facts, and if a product does not deliver fantastic results, then Doctor Oz will not give it a second glance.

This was the basis behind the release of seabuckthornoil.net. Spring boarding off the unprecedented demand that resulted from Dr. Oz's recommendation (as well as some other famous doctor's in Hollywood), the website offers the exact product that doctor Oz himself recommends- Sea Buckthorn Oil.

For Jessica King, who purchased the same Sea buckthorn Oil that is recommended by Dr. Oz, the results speak for themselves: "I lost 10 pounds in one month with Sea Buckthorn oil. It completely suppresses my appetite, and it gives me a heightened feeling of health that I haven't been able to achieve with any other 'superfood.' For those in the market for an amazing weight loss product, I cannot suggest Sea Buckthorn oil highly enough."

This sentiment seems to be shared throughout the entire weight loss community. More than being a great way to shed off the pounds, it gives users a wide variety of added health benefits that have helped it to become the most popular weight loss supplement available on the market today.
