    GRAPESEED HERBAL OIL DESCRIPTION

Grapeseed oil (also called grape seed oil or grape oil) is pressed from the seeds of grapes, and is thus an abundant by-product of winemaking. Grapeseed oils pressed from specific grape varieties including chardonnay and Riesling grapes are available. Some Grapeseed oils are solvent extracted. Be sure to check the method of extraction for the specific oil that you purchase. Grapeseed extract is derived from the small seeds of red grapes of the same sort used to make wine, Grapeseed Oil comes from the same place. The Grapeseed extract and Grapeseed oil are rich in flavonoids: phytochemicals, which have antioxidant properties. Antioxidants are believed to safeguard cells against the ravages of unstable oxygen molecules called free radicals, and prevent numerous ailments. Commonly known as PCOs (procyanidolic oligomers), they are the most valuable flavonoid in Grapeseed extract. Besides their antioxidant powers, PCOs are thought to improve blood circulation and help strengthen blood vessels, which is particularly beneficial to those suffering from heart disease and cancer.

GRAPESEED OIL USES & SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE

    GRAPESEED EXTRACT & PYCNOGENOL

Pycnogenol is an alternative source of PCO. Experts have researched the health benefits of Grapeseed Extract, and many research studies examining the therapeutic effects of PCOs have found it to be helpful, and in some cases more useful than Grapeseed extract; however, it is more expensive. PCO-containing drugs are prescribed for various vascular (vessel) disorders that are likely to benefit from increased blood flow, such as diabetes, leg cramps, varicose veins, arm and leg numbness or tingling and even impotence. The effects of improved circulation have been shown to be beneficial for those with macular degeneration and cataracts, and can reduce eyestrain. Grapeseed extract can also block the release of the pain and inflammation-causing chemical, prostaglandin's, in those with endometriosis. It also acts as a natural antihistamine to control the sneezing and congestion associated with allergic reactions. The antioxidant power of Grapeseed extract and oil helps protect muscle cells from damage associated with fibromyalgia.

    GRAPESEED OIL BENEFITS

Cosmetics & Skin Care Benefits: Grape seed oil is a preferred cosmetic ingredient for control of skin moisturization. Light and thin, grape seed oil leaves a glossy film over the skin when used as a carrier oil for essential oils in aromatherapy. It contains more linoleic acid than many other carrier oils. Grape seed oil is also used as a lubricant for shaving. The skin care benefits of pure, natural Grapeseed carrier oil is noted for its great skin moisturizing properties as well as regenerative and restructuring benefits. One of the most common oils used for aromatherapy massage, Grapeseed oil is very good for those with skin which does not seem to absorb moisture easily. It is a fairly all-purpose oil and can be used in a wide array of applications ranging from massage to skin care. The most noteworthy aspect of Grapeseed oil is its content of the essential fatty acid, linoleic acid. Because Grapeseed oil is rich in antioxidants, and also contains vitamins, minerals, protein, GLA, and vitamin E. All of Grapeseed Oils properties are also absorbed into the body through the skin providing soft, supple and firm tissue. Grapeseed oil is an excellent non-greasy oil with multiple uses, but could be further enriched or enhanced by blending it with another oil, such as Sweet Almond oil. Those with sensitive skin will also love Grapeseed oil because of its natural non-allergenic properties and slightly nutty scent. Pure Grapeseed oil is highly beneficial in cosmetics and is a preferred ingredient to treat stressed and damaged tissue. Grapeseed oil works wonders in stretch mark reducing aromatherapy recipes. Try Grapeseed oil with Mandarin oil or pink Grapefruit oil and watch those stretch marks melt away.

Grapeseed oil is also used as an ingredient in facial creams to help maintain skin elasticity. Grapeseed oil is a referred cosmetic ingredient for damaged and stressed tissues. The benefit of Grapeseed oil for a cosmetic ingredient can help skin retain the normal structure of epithelium cells and nerve cells via supporting the cell membranes.

Medicinal Benefits: Although Grapeseeds contain antioxidants and other biologically active compounds, the cold-pressed Grapeseed oil contains negligible amounts due to their insolubility in lipids. For instance, sufficiently high amounts of resveratrol occur in grape seed for it to be extracted commercially, yet it is almost entirely absent in the Grapeseed oil. There many be health benefits from the oil itself. A 1993 study supports the claim that Grapeseed oil increases high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C or "good cholesterol") levels and reduces LDL levels. Research on Grapeseed oil shows that it may prevent skin cancer. Reported in Chicago at the 223rd annual meeting of the American Chemical Society. Grapeseed Proanthocyanidins (a class of flavonoid), or GSPs, have lowered light induced carcinogens (a cancer causing substance). The preliminary tests were done on mice. Further research will be done on humans. Chief Dr. Santosh K. Katiyar stated, "It suggests that regular consumption of GSPs as a dietary supplement may be beneficial for the prevention of skin cancers."

Culinary & Cooking Benefits - Grapeseed oil has a moderately high smoke point of approximately 421°F (216°C). As a result, it is better suited than several other cooking oils for high temperature cooking and can be safely used to cook at moderate temperatures during stir-frying, sautéing, or deep-frying. Due to its clean, light taste, and high polyunsaturated fat content, it is also used as an ingredient in salad dressings and mayonnaise and as a base for oil infusions of garlic, rosemary, or other herbs or spices. It also is sprayed on raisins to help them retain their flavor. The metabolic energy density of Grapeseed oil is typical of vegetable oils: approximately 3,700 kJ (880 kcal) per 100 g, or 500 kJ (120 kcal) per 15 ml tablespoon.
